This hand painted pure tussar silk with a zari border, is a masterpiece of textile art that brings together the best of Bengali craftsmanship and creativity through a process that is labour-intensive, requiring patience, skill, and an eye for detail.
In this saree, a skilled artist, hailing from rural Bengal, has reproduced a pen Kalamkari painting, using a combination of detailed brushwork. Instead of using natural colours like is done by Kalahasti painters of pen Kalamkari, the bright floral and peacock motifs have been painted with acid colours.
