An exquisite expression of Bengal's celebrated weaving heritage, this handwoven Dhakai Jamdani saree combines the ethereal lightness of fine muslin with the painstaking artistry of traditional loom weaving.

The saree is woven in pure resham, creating a beautifully sheer, lightweight and fluid drape. Against its soft ivory base, stylised motifs in coral, green, charcoal and white appear almost as though they have been delicately embroidered onto the fabric. In reality, these patterns are created during the weaving process itself.

The hallmark of Jamdani lies in its remarkable supplementary-weft technique. While the base fabric progresses on the loom, the artisan individually introduces additional coloured threads to build each decorative motif into the textile. The design is therefore not printed or subsequently embroidered; it gradually emerges as an integral part of the saree as the weaving advances.

It is a slow, artisan-driven process requiring immense concentration, an experienced eye and precise coordination between hand, thread and loom. Depending upon the intricacy of the design, an artisan may spend many hours painstakingly developing relatively small sections of the saree. The more elaborate pallu demands even greater precision as individual geometric and botanical-inspired forms are built thread by thread.

This ivory saree features an elegant distribution of smaller motifs across the body, progressing into a much more elaborate pallu filled with striking abstract and foliage-inspired forms. The restrained multicolour palette brings contemporary freshness to a craft rooted in generations of weaving tradition.
